Job Opportunity: Publicist, BBC Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra

This is a fascinating role for a creative and enthusiastic comms professional with a passion for speech radio, especially drama, readings and culture programmes.

The post holder reports into Head of Communications, Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra, and is part of a small team of publicist who also look after the PR for Radio 4’s digital sister station, Radio 4 Extra.

Role Responsibility

You will run attention grabbing and creative publicity campaigns for a range of Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra programmes, including The Archers. You will write blogs and press releases, take journalists to recordings, pitch stories and arrange interviews.

You will handle reputational issues and work with senior executives, producers and talent, providing sound communications advice. You’ll also develop and maintain relationships with key UK media and partner organisations.

You will be the main communications adviser for Radio 4 Commissioning Editor, Drama and Fiction, and ensure that key publicity opportunities are spotted and planned for.

You will be a fan of Radio 4’s drama and readings content and passionate about the world of culture and arts.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate:

Proven track record in running creative talent led publicity campaigns generating positive coverage across print, broadcast and digital media
Experience in effectively managing difficult media queries under pressure and providing authoritative communications advice to senior managers, talent and colleagues to protect and enhance an organisation’s reputation
Knowledge and interest in Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra’s output, especially drama
Ability to spot a good story and experience in organising press events
Great writing and editing skills and knowledge of media and
Willingness to work in the evenings and weekends when required, including being part of the on-call rota
Interviews will be held on Monday 20th April 2015 in London. The successful candidate will be expected to start by mid/late May 2015. The contract ends on Monday 4th January 2016.
