Job Opportunity: Executive Director, Independent Street Arts Network

ISAN, the Independent Street Arts Network, is the national strategic organisation that supports and promotes the development of outdoor arts in the UK. With National Portfolio funding secured for 2015–2018, they are seeking to appoint an inspirational Executive Director—with proven experience in strategic and operational management—to lead the company in an exciting new phase of development. The Executive Director will be instrumental in forging partnerships and seeking new opportunities across the UK and abroad, while delivering a range of engaging programmes and events to support the professional development of the outdoor arts sector.

Outdoor arts embraces all art forms—from theatre and dance through to visual and digital arts—and has become established through high standards of critical excellence in large-scale spectacular work, public realm programmes, carnivals and processions, and intimate site-specific performances. With the latest national Audience Finder data confirming the value and benefits of outdoor arts to communities and public spaces, and its comparative success in reaching diverse and less engaged audiences, the ISAN Executive Director will play a critical role in driving forward our future ambitions, shaping public and stakeholder perceptions of outdoor arts, and developing its wider public engagement.

Salary: £36–£40k (depending on experience).

The ISAN office is based in Euston, Central London, but some travel will be required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Proven expertise in strategic and operational leadership within the cultural sector

  • Experience of producing and delivering an engaging programme of activities and events

  • Demonstrated success in relationship and partnership building across a range of agencies and organisations at national and international levels

  • Excellent knowledge of contemporary arts practice, particularly ways of working in the public realm both in the UK and abroad

  • The ability to identify new priorities, anticipate change, and articulate the vision and policies to support this

  • Strong communication and presentation skills at all levels

  • Excellent knowledge of marketing and communications

  • Passion and commitment to the work of ISAN, its members and the wider arts and cultural sector

  • Significant experience in financial management, successful fundraising, and delivering ambitious projects and programmes of work
