Job: Office Assistant for Film Project

JOB OFFER: Super organised and enthusiastic office assistant needed at Spanner Films, London
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEADLINE: TUES, 27TH JANUARY

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and super organised office assistant to keep everything running smoothly in what promises to be an extremely busy year for us. You will be working on both the promotion of our new film, "The Age of Stupid", and on the social action campaign, "Not Stupid", running alongside.

"The Age of Stupid" is the upcoming climate blockbuster from McLibel director Franny Armstrong and Oscar-winning producer John Battsek. Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at archive footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance?

...

The aim of the "Not Stupid" campaign, which we're running in partnership with more than 30 NGOs - including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Stop Climate Chaos, Low Carbon Communities and Plane Stupid - is to turn 250 million viewers into activists and then focus them on the UN climate summit in Copenhagen in December 2009, where the future of our species will be decided.

We are looking for someone who genuinely wants an admin job and enjoys the kind of mundane tasks most people avoid like the plague. Multi-tabbed, colour-coded spreadsheets are your idea of a fun night in. You're the kind of person is happy to be texted at 11pm and asked to do a random pick at 6am the next day, and still arrive in the office smiling. This job is mainly about being organised and positive, rather than specific skills.

You will be primarily working from our office in Camden, London, alongside the other five members of the core team, but you may have to travel on the odd occasion. You will mainly be supporting Lizzie Gillett, who is the co-producer of the film and the campaign manager for Not Stupid in her effort to keep the project organised. In some ways it will be quite a traditional admin role; sorting post, paying invoices, booking meetings & travel, updating spreadsheets, errands to the post office and filing receipts but inevitably there will lots of co-ordinating with investors, supporters, and film industry professionals (especially film festivals) from around the world. You need to be very friendly and easy going as you'll be dealing with dozens of people on a daily basis.

Of course there will be more glamorous parts of the job especially with the large number of events we are running around the world, throughout the year. We're also launching our Not Stupid campaign on March 15th so we're now on a very tight timeline to make sue the essential elements are in place.

This is a good entry level position for someone who'd like to organise big events or run a small film company / NGO. Lizzie started as an admin volunteer with Franny back in 2002 and has now produced a feature documentary and is managing a global campaign on climate change.

Required Skills:
- Accounts: Bookkeeping (using Quickbooks), knowledge of PAYE & VAT, experience of filing annual company returns & VAT returns.
- Admin: Strong admin skills in all areas and ability to be fast without making many mistakes is crucial.
- Computer: All the usual programmes but especially proficient in Excel and Word.
- Writing & talking: Strong communication skills essential as you'll be dealing with over 150 emails a day and endless phonecalls.
- Multitasking without getting stressed.

Useful skills:
- In-depth knowledge of climate change an enormous advantage.
- Experience in legal or HR another big advantage.
- Experience in a small campaigning organisation and/or small production company very handy.
- Making a good cup of tea essential to the job.

Job Details:
- Contract: Ten months with a one month trial on both sides
- Full time preferred but we will consider part time applicants
- Starting: 2nd Feb 2009 (but we can be flexible on this)
- Salary: 19,000 UK pounds inc tax
- Fast laptop essential.

To apply:
- Send cover letter and CV to job@spannerfilms.net, along with:
-->> the biggest spreadsheet you have made
-->> a description of the most complicated event you have managed
- Deadline: 27th January
- Any questions, email Lizzie Gillett on job@spannerfilms.net
- Please don't call
