OUTDOOR TOURING SHOW ‘THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT!’
IS CASTING FOR THE CHARACTERS OF MR. PUNCH, JUDY AND THE POLICEMAN!

This is for a second team of actors – we will have 2 teams on the road this summer. We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds.

CHARACTER OF MR. PUNCH
Red Herring is looking for a male performer to join our pool of performers for That’s The Way To Do It! – a hilarious and provocative Punch and Judy Show for outdoor events, produced by Time Won’t Wait.

Applicants must have significant experience in comedy, devising, improvisation and outdoor or interactive theatre. We’re looking for people who can think on their feet and respond well to audiences.

Mr. Punch: 30-50, medium size - tall.
Mr. Punch is an iconic character; strong, funny, rowdy and anarchic. He rebels against the law and has an eye for the ladies. Mr. Punch has Judy as his lifelong companion. Together their tour the land performing their show causing hilarity and trouble wherever they go.

Performers will need to feel comfortable wearing a mask, be physically fit, confident in challenging situations and able to build rapport with the public.

•    Auditions, Wednesday 28th March
•    Company meeting, Monday 2nd April
•    Rehearsals: 14th-18th and 21st-26th May
•    Performances (tbc) all over the summer until September.

CHARACTER OF JUDY
Red Herring is looking for a female performer to join our pool of performers as Judy for That’s The Way To Do It! – a hilarious and provocative Punch and Judy Show for outdoor events, produced by Time Won’t Wait.

Applicants must have significant experience in comedy, devising, improvisation and outdoor or interactive theatre. We’re looking for people who can think on their feet and respond well to audiences.

Judy: 30-40, small and feisty
Judy is Mr. Punch’s lifelong companion. In our version of the show, Judy gives as good as she gets and is a perfect match for the belligerent Mr. Punch. She’s proud of their iconic status and happy to shout about it from the rooftops. She’s a hard working, no fuss type of character, with an eye for the gentlemen.

The Policeman: 30-40, tall.
The Policeman is a symbol of the law and politically correct behaviour. When he comes across Punch and Judy in the town square, he is desperate to make an arrest and make Punch and Judy an example.
The performer will need to be physically fit with a strong voice, slightly quirky, confident in challenging situations and able to build rapport with the public.
