Anton Mirto’s The Army - We Want You!

The Army Workshop:
Monday 21 January 2019: 13:30-16:30, Dalston, Hackney
Booking / Info: email Anton at A2company@hotmail.com

Anton Mirto's The Army is calling all women (BAMER performers are particularly encouraged to apply) with an interest in Activism, Movement and Performance for an impromptu ‘marching’ in 2019.

“to stand on my feet, to challenge my behaviour, to breathe, to hurt, to fight, to be for or against an idea, to be stronger than I think I am...”

Conceived as a desire to stand up, stay awake & survive The Army is an ongoing call to be brave in an age that promotes fear: a ‘march' against apathy, for healing, presence, unity and strength.

Since 2016 the 10min work has been performed impromptu in 36 London public outdoor spaces by different combinations of volunteer women at different times, in accordance to their availability. See first ever 2016 ‘march’ here.

"An empowering practice as much as a performance... I now stand a little straighter, speak a little louder, take up a little more space"  (participant-performer feedback)

Intrinsically process led, Mirto’s practice provides space and value to acts that release and restore. As Artistic Director of A2company she has presented performance works at: The Place, Royal Opera House, Tate Modern, ICA, as well as in France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Israel and Austria. As an independent artist, she has shown in Cape Town, for Infecting the City Festival. In London at: Trip Space / Limen, part of Hayward Gallery’s 'Mirror City' and Lillian Bayliss.
