Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Michael, I'm a graphic artist. This is my portfolio .... I'm also director and co-founder of Panther Club; An independent publishing project and blog that initiates limited edition print projects with talented individuals pursuing distinctive creative visions.

 

Why do you do what you do?

Because I love it.

 

How do you work?

I always work quite methodically. After researching the theme, styles and content, I usually have quite a distinct vision of what it is I'm going to create. All thats left for me to do is to make the thing.

 

 

What’s your background?

BA (Hons) Illustration Degree/ self discovery.

What’s integral to the work of an artist?

Vision.

 

What role does the artist have in society?

To visually stimulate and ask questions.

 

What has been a seminal experience?

The great San-Francisco acid wave?

 

How has your practice change over time?

My practice is constantly evolving, It's hard to pin point a specific change.

 

 

What art do you most identify with?

Experimental/psychedelic/underground/pop art

 

What work do you most enjoying doing?

Print based artwork that involves interesting processes like screenprinting and risograph.

 

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?

I once worked temporarily in a tooth paste factory.

 

Why art?

Why not?

 

What is an artistic outlook on life?

To be interested in everything.

 

Is the artistic life lonely? What do you do to counteract it?

I think it can be, the best way to counteract this is to talk to people...and not on a computer.

 

What do you dislike about the art world?

Bad Art.

 

What do you dislike about your work?

That sometimes it doesn't ever leave the computer screen.

 

What do you like about your work?

When it leaves the computer.

 

What role does arts funding have?

Money helps make things and make things happen.

Eduardo Paolozzi, keiichi tanaami, East Totem West

 

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

To be able to deconstruct/reconstruct and understand why.

Professionally, what’s your goal?

To continue to work on interesting projects with interesting people.
