KERENZA EVANS RELAXES AT HOT TUB CINEMA

Like a Hawaiian water bungalow or a house made entirely of cookies, a hot tub is one of those creations in which it's almost impossible to be unhappy. Throw in champagne and a classic movie being broadcast on giant projector screens and prepare to be ultimately relaxed.

Hot Tub Cinema is a novel creation which does almost exactly what you would think. Myriad hot tubs are positioned around two screens where guests can enjoy a movie, with waiter service providing beers, cocktails and champagne directly to the tubs in question. The current location is a warehouse in Shoreditch which is every bit as freezing as you might expect in February's climes, but thankfully, upon stepping into the hot tub, any feelings of coldness evaporate and your body soon stops feeling like it is part snowman. Unfortunately this dichotomy of comfort inside and outside the tub means you will then experience an extreme reluctance to get out. And I don't even mean just during the film. After the film as well, when everyone's leaving. I briefly considered a life where I would bask in the blissful warmth of the hot tub forever, soon becoming a mysterious circus attraction called the 'Water Girl' who travellers would come from far and wide to stare at.

Tub choices range from 'Cosy' (where you'll be sharing with up to 7 other people) to Deluxe where you can hire a hot tub with friends for private use. (The way I phrased that sounds like I'm suggesting an orgy. I'm not...That's what the public swimming pools or Croatia are for). I'd recommend opting for a tub of six or less, unless you know everyone very well, as I can imagine eight would somewhat crowded. Although on the plus side, after a few drinks, everyone feels pretty relaxed anyway; being half naked and accidentally and repeatedly grazing the person next to you is a great ice breaker. In fact, hell, maybe people should start organising work socials there.

The films on show tend to be perennial eighties and nineties favourites ranging from Grease to Pulp Fiction to Ferris Bueller's Day Off (one of my favourite movies of all time); All films that eveyone knows well and are a great deal of fun. The film playing on the night I attended was Austin Powers which was highly apposite for the hedonistic 60s vibe the place creates!

However, do be warned: upon exiting the hot tub, you may find yourself a touch prune-like from being enveloped in water for so long. I actually survived wrinkle free (having been blessed by a faerie who granted me eternally youthful hands. Great third birthday present). However, my guest's hands felt of a consistency like that of a lizard's back. A lizard which had been left in the desert for a couple of months without water or moisturiser. ...Not that one should ever moisturise a lizard; in fact, if you do know anyone who does this, report them immediately.

Post-film, we were treated to a disco of sorts with awesome retro tracks a-flowing through the warehouse at the same rate as the alcohol. At this point, the bubbles in the hot tub were turned on and people tub jumped, danced and generally soaked up the atmosphere. It's events like these that make me love being young(ish) and living in London and I eagerly anticipate what Hot Tub Cinema will reveal in what is sure to be a successful future!

The current season of Hot Tub Cinema is running at Factory 7, 13 Hearn Street in Shoreditch. Keep an eye on the website here to learn more about current and future seasons.
