Gabby Young's London Fashion Week Diary part 2!

Day Three:
HARRIET'S MUSE @ Vauxhall Fashion Scout
This was an exhibition rather than a traditional show, which basically uses the same skinny models (they always make me feel hungry!!) strutting their stuff but instead of walking down a catwalk they pose in front of a gold screen that was roped off from a viewing area. There was a 'celebrity model' in this one which added interest to the whole thing - Sophie Anderton, yes... the one from THAT reality show and the one with THAT drug problem! She is older then any other model I've seen yet and I was impressed, in the words of Tyra Banks in my guilty 'Americas Next Top Model' obsession- she was Fierce! The clothes were too- fierce, that is.

I loved H.M's last collection - it was very 'me' dramatic, theatrical, big and beautiful structured gowns that made me purr with delight... this time I wasn't so excited. There was a lot of black - as you will find out; today was full of a lot of black! But the shapes are beautiful and there's no denying they are a talented pair- I got to meet one half of the team, Craig and he was lovely - I couldn't help but gush! It was at this show that we met some wonderfully eccentric types that will carry on popping up as I think me and Kiki have found ourselves a kind of mix match crew from a stunning Thai man in heels and a vintage Balenciaga hat to a Dickensian 'Bill Sykes' look-a-like London photographer - all of whom are so friendly and interesting; it's lovely to have a new 'fashion family'!

VAUXHALL FASHION SCOUT SHOWROOM
We then went upstairs in Freemasons Hall to where a bunch of up and coming designers were showing and selling their wares in a beautiful Victorian style hall. The 'ones to watch' from the show on Friday were all there and I got to meet the lovely, Florencia Kozuch who I adore - and yes, I DID get her card and hand over my flyer; LFW is all about the networking!

There was lots to see and I really think she stood out as well as the charming Viking Wong who let me try on his amazing black and white coat that I was very tempted to run off in! I just loved the way that right down the middle of the viewing area was like a library- with dozens of designers on their laptops or even with their dogs; Viking's looked very comfy!! It was a great place to hang out and we even got given cupcakes by Charlotte Taylor and her cute penguin inspired garments! (Giving out food is a VERY smart move in my book!)

ALEXANDRA GROOVER @ 20 Beak Street
20 Beak Street is the sort of warehouse you come across all the time in Shoreditch, but this is in Soho, hence its status as hot new spot for LFW this year; for new designers to exhibit and do something a bit different to present their new collection... Alexandra Groover did exactly that. She had REAL looking models - not skin and bones (yey!) in roughly braided hair and black splashes all over them (I was assured they were meant to look like that!!) it was wonderfully DIY and made me warm to her straight away as we were seeing the designer herself spraying them with black ink on the spot, helping with hair, trotting around between backstage and the audience, greeting people- I am so impressed by this hands on work ethic. She also chose a sort of interpretive dance instead of a posed exhibition or a catwalk style show and I liked to see the originality and courage it must have taken to go for that. I'm not going to get all excited about black jersey, I'm just not that sort of person and unfortunately for me when I realised that the black black black jumper dresses the models had on WERE the collection I was disappointed. I get it, I just would prefer more colour, material options and vitality... having said that I wouldn't want to do her a disservice - there were people there that do like that sort of thing and were thrilled!

DOII PARIS AFTERPARTY, Shoreditch
I'm definitely not a party person, I'm allergic to alcohol and love my nights in BUT if you offer me FREE SUSHI and a non alcoholic cocktail as I walk in, of course I'll come- I may even stay a few hours and meet some lovely people like I did on Sunday night in some little bar in Shoreditch. Lovely crowd, LOVELY food. Lovely day... oh I've gone all 'lovey' on you all!!!
