Contra-Internet is the first institutional solo exhibition by London-based artist Zach Blas.

Built around a video installation, the exhibition confronts the transformation of the internet into an instrument for state oppression and accelerated capitalism. Inspired by theorist Paul B. Preciado’s 2002 Manifiesto Contrasexual, the exhibition unites feminist and queer perspectives with a hacker ethos, attempting to fracture the global dominance of 'the Internet' while speculating on alternative network infrastructures that activists are developing globally.

The exhibition is co-commissioned by Gasworks and Art in General, New York. Contra-Internet is a project of Creative Capital.

Zach Blas is an artist and writer whose practice engages technics and minoritarian politics. He is currently a Lecturer in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. Blas has exhibited and lectured internationally, recently at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; eflux, New York; and Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City. Blas’s artist monograph Escaping the Face will be published by Sternberg Press and Rhizome in 2017. His work has been written about and featured in Artforum, Frieze, Art Papers, Mousse Magazine, and Art Review.
