A brand new Museum where the work of ‘outsiders’, ‘self-trained’ artists - ‘secret’ art will be shown. The exhibition has been curated guest artists. It is for everything, by everyone, for everybody!

Opening October 2009, The Museum of Everything is London’s first and only public space for artists and creators living outside the boundaries of modern society.

From janitors to jailbirds, mediums to miners, this secret art has inspired scores of artists from Jean Dubuffet to Jean Michel Basquiat.

The contemporary artists, curators and cultural figures choosing works for this, the museum’s first ever exhibition, include rockers Jarvis Cocker and Anthony Hegarty (Anthony and the Johnsons), curators Hans Ulrich Obrist (Serpentine) and Norman Rosenthal (ex RA), plus international artists Ed Ruscha, Eva Rothschild, Tal R, Annette Messager, Jockum Nordstrom, Idris Khan, Bob and Roberta Smith, Paul Noble, Mamma Andersson and Richard Wentworth.

Their selections include the ceramic kingdom of Indian roads worker Nek Chand, the sprit renderings of Hackney medium Madge Gill and the fairytale illustrations of Chicago hermit Henry Darger ten of whose epic drawings have been reunited for the first time since his death in 1973.

These are but a handful of the two hundred drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations housed in the 10,000 sft former dairy and recording studio, which for years was a home from home to such recording artists as The Boomtown Rats, Take That, Coldplay and Madonna.

The Museum of Everything will open its doors in October 2009 with a gala event on October 13th in conjunction with Frieze. There will be extended hours and special events throughout Frieze, including a talk by Serpentine director Hans Ulrich Obrist and the premiere of the movie Make.

» The works in this inaugural show have been selected from several international private collections which have lent to museums and exhibitions worldwide.

» Museums in Europe and the US which show this genre of work include the Lille Museum of Modern Art in France and the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.

» Museums which have exhibited individual works include MoMA (New York), Whitechapel Gallery (London), Maison Rouge (Paris) and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin).
