Introduced by Curator Hayley Skipper, this panel discussion explores how contemporary visual artists engage with the environment, followed by a performance by Adam James.
Jerwood Open Forest Selectors discuss examples from their own practices. Introduced by Hayley Skipper, Curator of Arts Development, Forestry Commission, with Michaela Crimmin, Dan Harvey and Tania Kovats.
The discussion is followed by Sanctuaries, where you are invited to witness the building of the Oller Oller language through a performance Adam James. Sanctuaries is a series of improvised physical stories, each reflecting an aspect of a woodland space. Coming from a far away lands these storytellers are the Oller Ollers; shamans, wizened elders and purveyours of dreams. Over the duration of the show, the Oller Oller's will depict personal thematic sanctuaries using a variety of kinaesthetic means. Espousing coming tongue and wearing masks based on fictional animals and clay totems they will communicate intimate personal stories, make offerings and contribute to their growing language.
Please note, althought this event is free, each one must be booked in advance. Book here.
