Bekki Perriman explores life on the streets and the paths in the artist’s life that led her there, presenting homelessness in an abstract way drawing upon both the beauty and the horror.

Here she presents a number of works in her first solo show, including photographs, an installation and a sculptural piece.

PRIVATE VIEW: Sunday 14 July, 6-8pm
Perriman’s work is about fragments – of memories, stories and experiences. Working in extremes opposites - intuitively, fast and spontaneously or with slow, repetitive obsession, she becomes completely immersed in the art.

Reflections: Ten Days on the Streets –puddle reflections of places in which the artists once slept rough.

Picking Holes: Destroyed copy of DSM-IV psychiatric manual as a statement about psychiatric diagnosis, the holes in making these diagnoses and how they can change your life forever.

Untitled An installation of thousands of elastic bands hanging like rain drops, exploring obsession and compulsion.

Perriman came to London in her late teens, sold the Big Issue for four years and then managed to get a place at university. She later went travelling, worked with children on the autistic spectrum and currently volunteers for a play therapy charity. She was re-housed in Islington five years ago – “the first place I have really been able to call home”. Islington Exhibits will be her first solo show.
